Moodle Acceptable Use Policy
This document is the Acceptable Use Policy for use of the 'NWK College Online' online learning environment; MOODLE.
Failure to meet the terms described in this policy will be dealt with under the terms of the 'student disciplinary rules' which can be viewed within the student handbook or the student intranet.
In addition to the institutions 'acceptable use of college computers' policy, the following uses of 'NWK College Online' are deemed unacceptable and will not be permitted:
- Users must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to Moodle.
- Under no circumstances must users share their password or access details.
- Unsolicited messaging (messaging users not known to you or without good reason) is not permitted on Moodle.
Conditions of Forum/Message Usage
- Courses that make use of asynchronous and/or synchronous discussion areas do so in order to assist learners in their learning experience.
- The use of messaging within Moodle is a function designed to assist learners and enhance the learning experience.
Please observe the following rules and guidelines when posting content to Moodle (including messaging and forum posts).
- Unsolicited messaging (messaging users not known to you or without good reason) is not permitted on Moodle. ALL Moodle message content is recorded and stored for later retrieval.
- Use of inappropriate language and material will not be permitted. Users must not use obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, inflammatory, threatening or disrespectful language. Users must not use Moodle to post material that is profane or obscene (pornography) or that advocates illegal acts or violence or discrimination toward others.
- Users are reminded that text, images and other information created by third parties will be subject to the laws of copyright, and that this includes material found elsewhere on the Internet. Messages posted to the discussion area must not include such material without the copyright owner's permission, and links to other sites should comply with those sites' conditions for such links.
- Users are expected to respect the right to privacy of others. Users must not repost a message that was sent to them privately without permission of the person who sent the message. Nor must users post private information about another person or post contact information (eg. address, phone number) about any other person. Any contact or receipt of any message a user feels uncomfortable about should be reported to the course tutor or IS Helpdesk immediately.
- The College reserves the right to remove messages at its discretion. In addition, a message may be moved to another area of the discussions if, in the view of the course tutor, the message is more relevant to that area. However, the responsibility for the content of messages rests with the authors.
- Users may report messages that appear to conflict with these conditions straight to their course tutor. Alternatively, please use the link on the front page of Moodle and your "my moodle" screen to report Moodle Misuse
- Users must notify the IS team or their course tutor if she/he has identified a possible security problem.
